This work captures the fantastical collective ceremony of skydivers plunging into the infinite abyss of the open sky, hands linked together in mid air. Through tens of thousands of algorithmic simulations, the artist has seized the most beautiful form the human body can create in defiance of extreme velocity and gravity, the shape of a flower in full bloom. Golden lines drifting and flowing above the surface of red lacquer embody the pulse of the divers themselves and the extreme structural stability achieved by relying on one another’s body heat and shared heartbeat. Through the refined movement of these lines, what is experienced is not vertical descent but the horizontal expansion of the soul.
